Power of Two
Independent 501c3 organization
Power of Two will be able to operate as an independent 501c3 entity.
Posted October 30, 2020
Background & Context
Our organization is at an important cross-roads, as a five-year organization that has just ratified its next strategic plan. We have grown rapidly, and are currently at an annual budget of almost $6M and a team of 55 staff. We are already registered as a 501c3, but we operate under a fiscal sponsor, to whom we pay a 9% annual fee based on our expenses. The costs associated with the fiscal sponsorship would be better used in building internal capacity to support our team for HR and fiscal management, and would result in overall cost savings.
Immediate Problem
The support provided via this project will help us ensure a comprehensive understanding of the compliance/registration requirements that we would need to prepare for prior to a transition.
Work & Deliverables
Develop a comprehensive list of the requirements necessary to function as an independent 501c3 nonprofit serving families in NYC. It would also be helpful to understand the costs, time allocations and frequency related to each component of compliance/registration.
Preparation Phase
- Intro call with PO2 team member
Collaboration Phase
- Complete preliminary research
Wrap Up
- Deliver final report
Power of Two
Power of Two is a 501c3 nonprofit promoting healthy bonds between caregivers and children in NYC. Our vision is to create family and community conditions that will enable families to live healthy lives and allow them to reach their full potential. To do this we harness the power of supportive parent-child relationships; -Work to intentionally amplify positive messaging about investment in early childhood well-being (rather than focus on safety and risk); -Focus on cultivating a strong belief that everyone in the community has the power to improve it; -Build diverse and robust partnerships across sectors that eliminate barriers to services and that lead to improvement in community health and well-being -And lastly create opportunities for shared power and leadership with those traditionally absent from decision-making process.
