Help Generation Citizen Apply for Federal Relief Loans

Allow organization to continue providing action based civics learning to secondary students around the country and advocating for policy change for more effective civics at the state level

Posted April 3, 2020

In the last 10 years, Generation Citizen has provided project based civics learning to 60,000 middle school and high school students around the nation, helping them identify and take action on issues that matter to them in their communities. We have also worked closely with elected officials and peer organizations to advocate for state legislation and educational standards that creates opportunities and resources for civics learning broadly.

The global pandemic and the economic destruction it is causing create major challenges that threaten these programs. We seek assistance applying for loans under the CARES Act, so that we can continue to fund our operations and pursue our work this year. We are also particularly interested in understanding the documentation required and how to ensure that we are abiding by the requirements for the loan to be forgivable.

Generation Citizen

Generation Citizen is transforming how civics education is taught by bringing the subject to life. We champion real-world democracy education that equips all young people with the skills and knowledge needed to effect change. To ensure that our democracy represents the voices of all people, we prioritize working with students from communities that have been historically excluded from the political process. In the classroom, our Action Civics program inspires robust civic participation by inviting students to engage directly with the local issues and institutions impacting their communities. We provide thought leadership, conduct research, and build coalitions to advocate for state and district level policies that ensure schools prioritize Action Civics. Nationwide, Generation Citizen is activating a movement of young people prepared to lead in our democracy. Generation Citizen is nearing our 10th year of operations, serving more than 60,000 students since our founding
