Build Power with Asian American and Pacific Islander Women and Girls
Engage in litigation and legal advocacy to bring about systemic change for AAPI's
Posted July 2, 2019
NAPAWF’s legal program utilizes legal advocacy and litigation to advance the civil and human rights of AAPI women and girls in the areas of reproductive rights and health, economic justice and immigrant rights. Our work aims to ensure that the intersectional experiences of AAPI women and girls are seen, heard and considered by our courts as they decide issues that impact our communities. We have an ongoing need for pro bono support. The work will depend on our priorities at a given time, but volunteers will likely engage in the following: conduct and analyze legal research, review and analyze proposed legislation, and help create community legal education materials. Currently, we have a critical need for assistance with translation of our Know Your Rights materials into Asian languages, so we particularly welcome support from attorneys who have written fluency in any Asian language. Our current work focuses on access to reproductive health care; sexual harassment and violence against AAPI women; employment discrimination; and immigrant justice.
National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF)
The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) is the only multi-issue, progressive, community organizing and policy advocacy organization for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women and girls in the U.S. NAPAWF’s mission is to build collective power so that all AAPI women and girls can have full agency over our lives, our families, and our communities. NAPAWF’s work is centered in a reproductive justice framework that acknowledges the diversity within our community and ensures that different aspects of our identity – such as ethnicity, immigration status, education, sexual orientation, gender identity, and access to health – are considered in tandem when addressing our social, economic, and health needs. Our work includes advocating for the reproductive rights and health care needs of AAPI women, economic justice, and immigrant rights.
