Tzedek DC
Become trained to be pro bono lawyer in debt collection cases
Help a vulnerable family avoid financial spiral
Posted May 22, 2019
Tzedek DC is a legal services nonprofit headquartered at the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law and focused on safeguarding the legal rights of low and moderate income DC families facing debt-related difficulties.
We believe these are civil rights issues because predatory lending and debt collection lawsuits have been concentrated in our communities of color and against immigrant families, often with ruinous consequences such as impairment of credit report, garnishment of wages, or loss of a much-needed driver’s license.
In our litigation work, we advise and represent clients to protect them from adverse judgments, obtain dismissal of lawsuit where possible, and otherwise negotiate favorable resolutions.
We are holding an upcoming training (lunch provided) for those interested in volunteering:
June 11, 2019 12:15 - 1:30 PM
Cozen O’Connor
1200 19th Street NW- 3
3rd Floor
There is no charge to attend but an RSVP is required. Please RSVP to Tzedek DC’s Avodah Jewish Service Corps member, Reuben Siegman (rs@tzedekdc.org) by Friday June 7th. Space is limited.
