Legal Review of Website & Conviction Vacation Calculator - Washington State
Help people with misdemeanors in Washington determine eligibility for conviction vacation
Posted February 3, 2023
Background & Context
It might be more useful if you are familiar with the conviction vacation laws and procedures in Washington State. This project involves validating an online eligibility calculator and is specific to WA.
Immediate Problem
We are always looking for feedback on our calculator, especially from people in the legal field. We would like you to help us review our Eligibility Calculator and/or website to check if we are providing accurate legal information and the next steps, and/or if there is a better way we should be doing things.
Work & Deliverables
*Provide an overall impression of the calculator.
*Note areas that could be improved upon (e.g., legal accuracy, the
phrasing of content, the flow of questions - is it efficient? Is it logical?).
*Questions you’d expect clients to have if they had misdemeanor
convictions that might be eligible to vacate. And advice on how
we might better address such questions in the calculator.
Preparation Phase
- Schedule a background call with a representative from Clearviction
Collaboration Phase
- Clearviction will provide access to calculator and list of RCW's
Wrap Up
- Confer with representative(s) from Clearviction to review deliverables and ensure work is complete.
Clearviction
Clearviction is an open-source nonprofit working to create an online Eligibility Calculator and guidance to help people with criminal convictions vacate their records to have easier access to housing, education, and government assistance. We currently have a working eligibility calculator for misdemeanor convictions in Washington state. We are hoping to add felony convictions as well as adding other states in the future.
