Vote By Mail Rules and Laws
Posted January 30, 2019
This project is a survey of vote by mail laws, as well as the procedures for counting vote by mail ballots, across the country. Vote by mail is becoming an increasingly common method of voting, but research has shown that the rules for counting mail ballots can disadvantage young voters and voters of color. This project seeks, first, to identify the rules for counting vote by mail ballots in a number of states, as part of a broader effort to ensure that voters can be confident that their ballots will count. The project will include legal and policy research.
Access Democracy
Access Democracy is a project of The Leadership Conference Education Fund. Together, Access Democracy and The Education Fund work to protect the right and ability to vote, by improving how elections are run at the local level. Complementing the litigation and legislative work of national, state and local voting rights organizations, this partnership focuses on the challenges voters face when they go to vote. Because the fight for voting rights doesn't stop at the polling place door.
