Conduct Outreach and Research for Online Tool that Helps Recruit Poll Workers Across the Country

Help update a database that makes it easy for members of the public to become poll workers.

Posted April 4, 2022

NOTE: We are seeking volunteers who are able to commit to at least 5 hours per week for the next couple months.

---

Many local election officials struggle to recruit poll workers, particularly those with in-demand technological and language skills. WorkElections.org, a nonpartisan project of Fair Elections Center, helps them do that. It collects and centralizes information on employment requirements and application processes for over 5,000 jurisdictions in 47 states. Individuals who are interested in serving as poll workers can visit the website, select their state and jurisdiction, and receive location-specific instructions and links to applications.

The website was launched several years ago and was active in helping election officials recruit poll workers for the 2020 elections. Between June and November 2020, WorkElections had over one million visitors, with over 158,000 clicking an "Apply Now" button. In 2022, we aim to build on that success and to continue helping recruit new poll workers nationwide.

You will work with the WorkElections.org project manager to update/confirm poll worker recruitment information – such as employment requirements, compensation, training details, and shift hours – for the thousands of election jurisdictions in the database. This will mainly be done via phone outreach to local election offices in states across the country. This work will be done remotely, with trainings/check-ins taking place via phone call or videoconference.
